1. What AOTOCOL PLUS is and what it is used for

AOTOCOL PLUS granules contain 62% w/w Sterculia &  8% w/w Frangula. Sterculia is a vegetable gum from the karaya tree. It is natural dietary fibre which helps to relieve constipation and help keep you regular. Frangula act as a mild peristaltic stimulant and aids the evacuation of the softened faecal mass. Sterculia is not absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. Frangula acts locally on the wall of the intestinal tract. It is also used by the people:

With colostomies or ileostomies,

Who need a high fibre diet, for example in diverticular disease of the colon,

Who have had rectal or anal surgery,

Who have swallowed something sharp to reduce the chance of damage to the intestine (gut).

Before you take AOTOCOL PLUS

Do not take AOTOCOL PLUS if your doctor has told you that you have:

A blockage in your intestine (gut)

Total loss of muscle tone in the colon.

Faecal impaction.

Allergy to any of the ingredients

Talk to your doctor before taking AOTOCOL PLUS, if you have ulcerative colitis (an inflammatory disease of the bowel which can cause abdominal pain and bloody diarrhoea). If you have been told by your doctor that you have intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this product.

Taking other medicines

Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.

Taking AOTOCOL PLUS with food and drink

AOTOCOL PLUS should be taken after meals and always drink plenty of water or soft drinks.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding
AOTOCOL PLUS is not recommended.

AOTOCOL (Sterculia alone) is available if required in the pregnancy and lactation. Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking during pregnancy or breast-feeding.

Driving and using machines

AOTOCOL PLUS should not affect your ability to drive or use machines.
